Our Story :

We were out on a date and I blurted out, "I want to open a coffee shop." My Husband, then just a friend, had no idea that I normally try & fail to execute my crazy ideas, so after a long, confused stare, he says, "But... do you have coffee shop experience? Do you even drink coffee? How are you doing this?" I giggled and said I don't know! We are Mony & Adam, a soon-to-be married team that decided to take our entrepreneurial addictions to the next level. Wellllll, sort of, we're still on our way there. What started as a dream has grown into our reality, creative outlet, family business, & passion. We started out in the middle of Chestnut St. in downtown Muscatine, IA, a small little boutique with a lot of crazy potential. We expanded to East 2nd St. - the main strip of downtown - took the boutique style away & stuck to just caffeine & good vibes. 

We pride ourselves on creating a space that's friendly to both the coffee snob & the basic bitch. Whether you're looking for a classic cortado or a yummy energy drink with a funky flavor, our menu has something for everyone, poured with the best vibes. We make all of our basic & seasonal syrups in house, use Brandy Wine Coffee Roaster blends, use the best plant-based milks, & have a menu of Glow Lattes (with ingredients like turmeric, collagen, etc.) that have a variety of health benefits. If caffeine is something most people consume daily, we want to provide a cup with unapologetic and raw energy instead of something full of corporate money hogs & zero flavor like most coffee chains. 

Our goal is to deliver high quality caffeination with a side of humor. We want to remind people not to take life so seriously, to be unapologetically them. Let the weird out baby! We serve the same quality, if not better quality, of caffeine with a better, more weirdly inviting atmosphere. Black Pearl makes specialty caffeine more approachable and a lot more fun.
